Heinrich Rambold (1872–1953) was a unique reverse glass painter from Murnau. He taught Gabriele Münter, among others, how to paint behind glass. He covered the former business book of his family, who were leatherworkers (i.e. tanners), with collected memorabilia and thus created a very personal album: tickets, membership cards, newspaper clippings and photographs provide an insight into a diverse and committed life: he was a founding and honorary member of the Murnau traditional costume association and belonged to the Murnau Schäfflers, the volunteer fire brigade and the sports club. He took part in theater performances and was one of the first skiers in Murnau. By practicing this sport and not least as a painter of numerous images of saints, he added another to the canon of saints: St. Scius, blessing and standing barefoot on skis. He created it in 1936 for the Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The saint quickly became popular and soon there were many imitators.
